The system works like this: When the battery selector is set to 1, battery 1 is both a consumption and starter battery. Battery 2 is completely protected from draining, and is charged automatically as long as the engine is running. When it is full, the relay automatically controls the maintenance charge on and off. The same happens on the opposite batteries when the battery selector is set to 2. This ensures that one of the batteries is always fully charged.
